Each collection over the years builds on previous works, explores variations on a theme, or works in conversation with previous collections. All of Christine's work address subjects, themes, and reoccurring symbols highlighted in her artist statement.

Using mixed media, Christine creates sweeping abstract “internal landscapes” that refract light, construct shadows, and animate internal human experiences. Over the past 15 years, she has explored themes of grief, synesthesia, the complexities of relationships, and motherhood, building a personal visual language that recurs throughout her collections. By manipulating the luster of natural objects, she incorporates profound depth and dimension into her work, ensuring that while the stories are rooted in her own life, they resonate deeply with the viewer.

Using thin layers and glazing techniques, she imbues her work with a sense of depth, time passed, and movement through the world. Her “lifelines” are a recurring element that speak to individual connections with friends and family, representing the tension and tenor that each relationship holds on the canvas—reflecting her belief that the relationships we hold are the most valuable things we possess.

Meet Me in the black & white

In pursuit of minimal color, 2017

Tap through the slider to see all of the works in this series. This collection was made in the pursuit of minimal use of color. These pieces use black, white, shades of grey and the use of copper metallic paint in as a way to narrow my palette and explore depth of tone in in each of these elements.
