“Variation is a curlicue, a wisp of smoke, a div “Variation is a curlicue, a wisp of smoke, a diversion. Obsession is also a diversion. Whereas you seem to be subjected to the most rigid immobility, to be attacked from all sides with thoughts that inevitably drive you back to this immobile point, obsession is yet a strategy of avoidance-which spares you, by all means necessary, from thinking about something else, a thing that you must not and cannot think.” – In Praise of Risk by Anne Dufourmantelle

More obsessed than I’d like. 🤍
I am once again being unprofessional and immature. I am once again being unprofessional and immature.
✨REBIRTH - NEW LIGHT ✨ The rebirth of the stu ✨REBIRTH - NEW LIGHT ✨

The rebirth of the studio, it starts over and over again; with each new series of works or large commission. It bends, it accommodates, it is a mother to my many zany ideas. Each iteration is always a new arrangement, a new negotiation. How will we live together? What moves will we make together in this space?

But isn’t every space a mother of sorts? Our spaces either feed, nurture, allow, and give permissions, or they restrict, bind, close us off, trap us in dread, or drain us with ugly boredom. Much of this is how we live with our spaces and how good we are at negotiating with space. Today I am thankful for this space that even though she isn’t my dream studio; she is sweet, she is forgiving, she gives me everything that she has, and she is a partner in my dreams. #spacecadet 👩🏻‍🚀
For no particular reason other than I’m just lov For no particular reason other than I’m just loving the details of people these days; an incomplete list of the things humans do that I find adorable:

🍦When a grown adult licks an ice cream cone. It feels like a childish gesture when most adults opt for a cup and spoon, licking a cone is a rebellious act of play.

🥰 The fact that we send each other Christmas cards with our faces on them. The gesture is saying “Here is my face, I would like to see your cute face on my fridge for the next 10 months too.”

😏 I love the facial expressions of the person who is not talking in a group conversation. It twitches, flashes, buzzes with ideas and all those micro expressions are wonderful.

☕️I love seeing someone carrying a tray of coffees out of a coffeeshop. Maybe it’s just their job, but in my mind I imagine that those coffees are for friends and it’s a visual trophy saying “I have friends, I do sweet things.”

🤣 I think it’s cute when someone has a loud, unexpected, or insane laugh and they are not self-conscious of it.

🥘I think it’s cute when people post pictures online of the food they made. “Look at this yummy thing I made, I’m proud of it and I want to share it with you.”

💃🏼I love seeing people get all dressed up. I like to imagine all the choices they made when getting ready, “These earrings with these shoes? No, that purse with this necklace will be my best look! This is me all gussied up!”

🕺🏼Pulling up next to a car and someone is singing or just wiggling around in their seat to the music. Really any form of public dancing is sure to put you in the category of “adorable” in my book.

Which late 90s tv commercial lives rent free in yo Which late 90s tv commercial lives rent free in your head? I’ll start. “You can’t pick your DNA, but you can always pick your jeans, at JC Penny!” *cue high waisted mom jean montage* I think about this commercial so much it’s infuriating. Whatever 😤 Back to business....

New year. New brushes. New mediums. Watch yourself I’m comin’ for y’a! Stay sweet ✌🏻#brushstrokes #studiovibes #cleanstart
I’ve been working on my New Years resolutions. I I’ve been working on my New Years resolutions. I’ve been so inspired by your goals. I know some people think that new year’s resolutions are unhealthy and often fail and if that’s the case for you, I understand. But for those of us who choose to participate I want to applaud your hope and your courage. For whatever you seek to change or improve, I’m cheering you on. Here is mine.

- to be a vocal encourager. When I see something good, I want to immediately say something good.

That’s it. I’m not one for long lists of resolutions or ultimatums. Just baby steps toward the better.

What’s your resolution? Tell me below! #newyearsresolution2021
