Breathing Room

2019

This collection was made to highlight each element, no color or element touches in these works. Each layer is created on acrylic panel and exists completely separate yet they interact when viewed front on.

One of my New Year’s resolutions was to ā€œhave One of my New Year’s resolutions was to ā€œhave more funā€

I used to be a high strung, high anxiety, deep depression, suicidal, and a very serious about life kind of person. About 3 years ago I learned I was allowed to enjoy life, I was allowed to have things and want things. I learned that wanting and liking isn’t inherently bad. I feel like I’ve learned what enjoyment and pleasure are but most of those things come down to nervous system regulation for me. I enjoy a run, I enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine, I enjoy self care but I wouldn’t necessarily call those things ā€œfunā€. Fun for me is a different energy, it’s more physical and social and more up focused as opposed to enjoyable with is down focused.

This year you may see a lot of different things from me. You’ll see works that are unlike previous works, you’ll see me playing and trying to practice ā€œfunā€. I invite you on this journey with me and want you to know the art I’m making is still me, still full of purpose and lots of thought. Some of it might not be for you and that’s okay. But if nothing else, I hope this year you play a little more and practice what ā€œfunā€ is for you. Stay sweet my friends āœŒļø
Everyone is saying what’s ✨IN ✨ or šŸ’©OUTšŸ’© in 2023 and here are trends I’ve noticed in my own business. Don’t shoot the messenger. It’s just what I’m seeing! šŸ‘€
✨IN✨
- one large painting instead of gallery walls or a few smaller pieces
- Silver/mixed metals
- Payment plans
- Personalized art/personal elements included in the work
- Colorful or unconventional frame choices

šŸ’©OUTšŸ’©
- diptychs or triptychs
- Artwork that’s too matchy matchy
- Black frames
- Art that doesn’t spark joy or thought/connection
- Lists telling people what’s in or out šŸ˜‹
