I am participating in a month-long residency in France for the month of May. I applied to this residency in 2019 and was accepted to their 2020 program. Due to the pandemic the residency was postponed twice. I’m excited to finally participate in the residency in May of 2022. I want to share this experience with my friends and collectors as best I can while still maintaining the purpose and mission of the residency. I would like to take you on this amazing journey with me, show you behind the scenes, and give you an insight on what being a creative residency can look like.
Below are FAQs and some options to support and participate in this residency with me!
What is an artist residency?
An art residency provides artists with the opportunity to live and work outside of their usual environments, providing them with time to reflect, research, or produce work. This residency is particularly exciting because it invites artists from around the world to work near one another, sharpen each other’s ideas and build community. Artists from different disciplines, painting, sculpture, music, and writing are in community, creating alongside each other.
My personal goal will be to make a new body of work. A new collection. I will also be in residence with other artists and writers. I will be building relationships, gaining and sharing inspiration with other artists from around the world. Why France?
This residency caught my attention because it accepts artists of different disciplines to work alongside each other. Additionally, the strongest cultural heritage I grew up with was my French heritage. I was excited by the possibility of making work in the country of my ancestors.
Why a month?
I was given the option to stay for two weeks or one month. I choose one month because I am planning on making a whole new series. Series development usually happens over many months for me, but focusing on this experience will allow me to experiment and create new work in a shorter period of time than normal.

Purchasing a study on paper is an affordable way of getting a physical piece of work that previews the final series. Studies are created to create color palettes, find movements, and plan a direction for the series. Studies are works on paper made at the beginning of the creative process.
